Employee Mandatory Reporting:
To review the College’s complete Mandatory Reporting Policy, please refer here.
Providence College is committed to ensuring that all members of the community who share concerns involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, or sex-based misconduct receive resources, support, and information about available options, including how to file a Report or Formal Complaint with the Office of Equity Compliance or the Assistant Vice President for Equity Compliance (Title VI and Title IX Coordinator).
All College Employees, other than those designated as Confidential Employees, are Mandated Reporters. Mandated Reporters are required to promptly share all known information involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, or other conduct prohibited under College policy with the Assistant Vice President for Equity Compliance, who serves as the College’s Title VI and Title IX Coordinator.
When an individual shares a concern with a Mandated Reporter, the Employee must report the information to the Coordinator. This allows the Office of Equity Compliance to contact the impacted individual and provide resources, supportive measures, and information about available options. Employees are required to report concerns regardless of when or where the reported conduct occurred.
Employees who become aware of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, or other conduct prohibited under College policy must report the information immediately, or at a minimum within 24 hours. A Mandated Reporter who is themselves a target of discrimination, harassment, or other misconduct under the Policy is not required to report their own experience, though they are encouraged to do so.
The College also reviews Reports and Formal Complaints to identify patterns or broader concerns so that appropriate steps can be taken to address the behavior, remedy its effects, and prevent its recurrence.
Helpful Tips for Mandated Reporters
If an individual begins to share a concern involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, or sex-based misconduct and has not yet provided details, do not ask questions. First, explain your responsibility as a Mandated Reporter.
You may say:
“I want to let you know that I am a Mandated Reporter. This means I am required to share information about discrimination, harassment, retaliation, or sex-based misconduct with the Title VI and Title IX Coordinator. The College is here to support you, and the Coordinator will contact you to provide information about resources, supportive measures, and available options. If you would prefer to speak with someone confidentially, I can connect you with a Confidential Resource.”
If the individual has already shared a concern, remind them of your responsibility as a Mandated Reporter. Do not press for additional details. Listen with care and empathy.
You may say:
“Thank you for sharing this concern with me. I am sorry you are going through this. Please know that the College is here to support you. As a Mandated Reporter, I am required to share your contact information and what you told me with the Title VI and Title IX Coordinator. The Coordinator will contact you directly to provide information about resources, supportive measures, and available options.”
