SPEEC

Vision

Students Promoting Equity, Education, and Compliance (SPEEC) serves as a student-centered mechanism for peer-to-peer prevention education initiatives, microlearning campaigns, professional development, dialogue, and engagement around student perspectives and concerns regarding discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. Members of SPEEC act as liaisons between the student body and the Office of Equity Compliance, serving as a vital pulse in identifying community needs and cultural shifts aimed at building a beloved community and reducing the likelihood of identity-based violence.

Members

  • SPEEC provides me the invaluable opportunity to connect with like-minded peers with the common goal of fostering a more diverse and inclusive campus.
  • SPEEC contributes to the Beloved Community at Providence College through its uniquely collaborative environment that empowers students to take ownership of their campus culture in a hands-on way.
  • Being a part of SPEEC allows me to grow as a peer educator and develop my voice as a leader, while helping to foster a culture of respect, inclusivity, and understanding for the diverse individuals and experiences that define our community. Fostering this culture and community is important to me as a first-generation Latina who hopes to help pave the way to a more loving and just community for all of those to come!
  • SPEEC connects to PC’s vision of creating a Beloved Community by putting its values of justice, love and grace into action by student members and faculty of our community. SPEEC nurtures a campus culture rooted in respect and understanding of each other which reflects PC’s mission of its commitment to building community guided by compassion, justice and love.
  • I chose to apply for SPEEC to be a part of a student led initiative to promote institutional equity, and I see our role as necessary to uplifting these issues for the greater student body. I am also excited to be on this board of student advocators to support solutions to important issues on this campus.
  • I see SPEEC as important in actualizing the college’s initiative in creating a beloved community that uplifts the dignity of every student, because us as students can meet and engage our peers where they are.
  •  I chose SPEEC because I want to help create a more inclusive and understanding campus environment where every student can be heard, be seen, and feel respected.
  • SPEEC connects to Providence College’s vision of creating a beloved community by enabling empathy, dialogue, and education around equity and inclusion. SPEEC helps students build mutual respect, challenge bias, and strengthen relationships across dissimilarities.
  • I chose SPEEC because I believe there is necessary advocacy to be done, especially in the current climate of the world. I believe that everyone deserves to be seen and heard and this group will raise awareness on important topics that are relevant to everyone’s lives.
  • SPEEC connects to Providence College’s vision to create a beloved community through offering support to people of all walks of lives through giving resources and education.
  • SPEEC empowers students to take responsible ownership of campus culture, creating a community built on respect, accountability, and care for one another, rather than relying solely on institutional authority.
  • The future is fully in our hands. It is not only the job of the college to help shape the adults we become after we graduate, but also the students who attend PC. SPEEC helps get students talking on topics that aren’t always the focus of attention but definitely should be.
  • Diverse ideas spark change. SPEEC not only connects to PC’s vision of creating a beloved community, but it enhances the safe-space environment and friendly feel of support that the college strives to offer.
